PPP president Datuk M. Kayveas has offered an olive branch to his embattled former ally turned nemesis Senator Datuk T. Murugiah with whom he is having a public row over alleged money politics and use of government patronage to buy influence in the party.

“Come and see me and talk it over,” Kayveas told The Malaysian Insider today. “We will see where that will take us. One of our grouses with him is that he is ignoring the party, me and senior leaders.”

“He can come over have coffee and talk . . . currently there is no communication at all between us,” Kayveas said. “I am the party president and this is a party matter. But why does he want to see the prime minister instead of me?”

Murugiah could not be reached for comments.

He had said he would meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over his spat with Kayveas.

Murugiah had also said he would challenge Kayveas for the party's leadership, but later retracted the challenge, saying he is interested in other posts in the party and not the presidency.

“If he does not take up the president’s offer, it is the axe for him,” said a senior PPP leader allied with Kayveas. “He has not been sacked but will get the boot if he does not climb down and give in.”

“We only want him to be part of the party not a lone ranger riding around the country single-handedly delivering justice,” the leader said. “If he fails to make-up he might ride into the sunset for good.”

Kayveas also refuted numerous reports that Murugiah had been sacked.

“The supreme council met and 42 of the 45 members voted for him to be sacked but I stayed their hand,” he said.

“I told them it would not look good especially with the party elections coming up on June 7,” Kayveas said, adding the party has decided to “wait and see” what is the next “scenario” coming from Murugiah.

that certain quarters have tended to ridicule judgments of the courts solely for these judgments having ruled one way rather than the other. For them, the expected outcome defines everything.

If it is not disappointing then it is presumed that the process of the law was not compromised. However, if the outcome is disappointing then it is a given that the process was subverted. This cannot be the right way to look at things as, whatever the case, the process of the law is crucial.-Malik Imtiaz Sarwar
